Cardboard Connoisseur

Terms and license

Last updated October 2026. In plain language, because you should be able to read what you're agreeing to.

These terms are between you and Cardboard Connoisseur ("we", "us"). They cover the Cardboard Connoisseur software and, if you choose a hosted plan, our hosting of it. By starting a trial or subscription you accept them.

1. Your license

While your subscription is active (including any free trial), we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the software for your own business or collection.

  • Self-hosted: one license key covers one website (one install). You may keep backup copies. Moving to a new host is fine — ask us to release the key from the old site.
  • Hosted: we run one install for you. You may give logins to your own staff as your plan allows.

You may not resell, sublicense, or redistribute the software, offer it to others as a hosted service, or remove the license checks or signing. You may change the code on your own self-hosted install for your own use; updates may overwrite changed files, and we can't support code we didn't write.

2. Trials, billing and cancelling

New subscriptions start with a 7-day free trial (14 days if you sign up through another customer's referral link). You add a payment card at sign-up; the first charge is at the end of the trial unless you cancel before then.

Subscriptions renew automatically each month or year until cancelled. Payments are taken by Stripe. You can cancel any time from your account page; you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. We don't give partial refunds for unused time, except where the law requires it — if something has gone wrong, email us and we'll be fair about it.

We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice by email. A price change takes effect at your next renewal after the notice period.

3. If a payment fails or you cancel

Self-hosted: the software never locks you out of your shop or your data. When a license isn't active, updates stop and the app shows a reminder; everything else keeps working.

Hosted: we keep your site running for 14 days after a failed payment while Stripe retries. After that, or when a cancelled subscription ends, we pause the site. We keep your data for 30 days after that, during which you can ask for a full backup or to restart. After 30 days we delete it.

4. Your data

Your inventory, costs, customers and sales are yours. On self-hosted plans they stay on your server and we never see them. On hosted plans we store them only to run your site, keep each customer's data in a separate database, back it up, and never sell or share it. Our privacy page has the details.

You're responsible for having the right to store the customer details you put in, and for following the rules of the platforms you sell on (eBay, TCGplayer, Whatnot, Shopify and others).

5. Outside services

Prices, listing, card recognition and payments come from third parties (for example eBay, TCG Price Lookup, Card Hedge, PriceCharting, CardSight, Google, Square, Shopify, Stripe and Backblaze). You open those accounts yourself, accept their terms, and pay them directly. We aren't responsible for their availability, their prices, or changes they make to their services.

6. Prices and numbers are guidance

Card values, deal suggestions, grading odds, profit figures and tax reports are worked out from outside data and your own entries. They can be wrong. Check before you buy, sell or file — the app shows where every number came from so you can. Nothing in the software is financial, tax or legal advice.

7. Updates and support

While your subscription is active you get updates as we release them, and email support. Updates are signed; installs refuse files that weren't signed by us. On hosted plans we install updates for you.

8. Warranty and liability

We work hard to keep the software reliable and your data safe, but it is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We aren't liable for lost profits, lost sales, or indirect damages. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Keep your own backups — the app makes this easy.

9. Ending these terms

You can stop at any time by cancelling. We can end or suspend your license if you break these terms (for example by resharing the software or a license key); where we can, we'll warn you first and give you a chance to fix it.

10. Changes and the law

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies. These terms are governed by the laws of the state in the United States where we are based.
